How to Wash a Sweater - By Fabric

How to Wash a Sweater – By Fabric

Fabricare Center Blog

Everyone has their favorite sweater. And with proper maintenance and care, that sweater can last for years. So today we’ll be looking at how to wash a sweater. Breaking down the different fabrics types and care instructions. If you have any questions, please let us know in the comments below

How to Wash a Sweater – by Fabric

Acrylic Sweaters

Cleaning an acrylic sweater requires a few precautions due to the way heat can affect the acrylic fibers. Often made to look like real wool, it’s important to check the tags, looking for the word “acrylic.” If it is, you will have to take some care when drying. Preferably you will dry the sweater by laying it on a flat surface. Or, if the labels say it’s ok, in a dryer on a delicate low heat setting.

Angora Sweaters

Angora is known for its incredibly soft feel. It’s also known for how delicate setting can cause how delicate it can be to wash without causing shrinking. Even the best washing machines can cause Angora to shrink. Because of this it’s recommended to spot treat and/or hand wash and lay flat to air dry.

Camel’s Hair / Cashmere / Mohair Sweaters

Incredibly soft forms of wool. Camel’s hair, cashmere, and mohair are high end fabrics that are often blended with wool for added strength. Because of their delicate nature matting, pilling, and shrinkage are common problems caused by incorrect care. With these fabrics it is important to read the label and most will be “dry clean only.”

Wool Sweaters

Possibly the most popular fabric for sweaters. Wool comes from sheep’s hai and is a string, soft, and durable fabric. Even with that said, it’s important to read the tag and treat wool sweaters properly. If the tag says hand clean only, then you hand wash and lay flat to try. And “cry clean only” obviously means take it to the dry cleaners

Spring Is In The Air!

Ben Feingold | Fabricare Center Owner

Spring is almost here and that means spending lots of time outside with family and friends. The chilly winter temps are on their way out making it the perfect time to entertain outdoors again. The beautiful spring weather is always such a welcome change with the start of this new season.

With the nicer temperatures, my wife and I love dining al fresco, playing in the backyard with our little boy, and entertaining guests for springtime holidays, cocktail parties, and other fun festivities that make this time of year so much fun. Spring in Atlanta really cannot be beat!

If you’re like my family and plan on spending lots of time in your backyard this season, let Fabricare Center help spruce things up by cleaning your patio cushions. Our expert cleaners will spot treat your cushions for mold, mildew, and grease spots. Our alterations department will also take a look to see if they have any tears or loose threads or ties that need to be resewn. We will send your cushions back to you looking as good as new. Give your patio the refresh that it needs this Spring!

As I mentioned, we get immense joy from spending time outdoors. Springtime in Atlanta is especially gorgeous as the dogwoods start blooming and the azaleas, daffodils, and tulips start sprouting up. This Spring, you can find us taking hikes on some of our favorite local trails, attending our son’s soccer games, visiting various playgrounds in the area, enjoying picnics, and attending some of the fun neighborhood art festivals that start popping up in the months ahead.

Protecting the environment is one of Fabricare Center’s core values. We thought we’d share a little bit about our best environmental practices with you. Fabricare Center is proud to use GreenEarth cleaning solution to treat our garments. Silicone based, this environmentally non-toxic, non-hazardous solution is extremely gentle and a great alternative to petro chemicals. This solution is designed to ensure the best possible result for fabrics and the environment. Using GreenEarth is just one way we can do our part to protect the beautiful planet we live on.

Now that spring is upon us, get outside, savor those warmer temps, enjoy nature’s beauty, and create special memories with family and friends!

5 Ways to Incorporate Self-Care into Your Routine

Day-to-day life involves responsibilities that can lead many to feel overwhelmed. In fact, a survey from CNBC found more than half of U.S. women (53%) are experiencing burnout. To counter the stresses of everyday life, DOVE Chocolate recommends these tips to show yourself compassion and take time to nurture your well-being.

Try a New (or Old) Hobby

Setting aside “me time” can help you recharge and show yourself the compassion you show others while nurturing your interests. Create a list of things you’ve been telling yourself you’ll try, whether it’s starting to paint, trying a cooking class or picking up a good book, and give yourself permission to take time to pursue your interests.

Incorporate a Treat into Your Day

When days feel long, incorporating a favorite treat can give you something to look forward to. This could be a phone call with a friend, catching up on your favorite show or indulging in a favorite goodie, which are three times the size of original Promises and come in Dark Chocolate and Peanut Butter and Milk Chocolate and Caramel varieties.

Spend Time Outdoors

Whether setting aside time for an afternoon stroll or mixing up your morning commute by walking, time spent outdoors can provide benefits for your well-being. In fact, spending time in nature has been shown to decrease feelings of loneliness and can have a positive impact on mood.

Block Off Your Calendar

Getting caught up in day-to-day responsibilities is easy, and many feel the burden of obligations to family, work and communities. Remember you also have an obligation to yourself and your well-being, so be intentional by setting aside time for yourself without other distractions. Whether it’s taking time off work or making plans for a vacation or staycation, nurture yourself the way you care for those around you.

Start a Routine

Starting (or ending) your day with a self-care routine can be a relaxing practice that helps you reinforce your wellness and values. Your routine can incorporate skin care, a gratitude practice or mindfulness techniques – anything that makes you feel grounded as a manageable addition to your day.

Citrus Breakfast Toast

Prep time: 13 minutes

Cook time: 2 minutes

Servings: 2

Prune Puree:

  • 16 ounces pitted California Prunes
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 large citrus fruit, peels and piths removed with knife, sliced into rounds
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons raw sugar
  • 4 tablespoons sunflower butter
  • 2 slices whole-grain sourdough bread, toasted to desired darkness
  • 2 tablespoons prune puree
  • 1 tablespoon sunflower seeds
  • 2 California Prunes, finely diced
  1. To make prune puree: In blender, pulse prunes and water to combine then blend until smooth, pourable consistency forms, scraping sides, if necessary.
  2. Store in airtight container up to 4 weeks.
  3. To make bruleed citrus wheels: Place citrus wheels on baking sheet and divide sugar evenly among each piece.
  4. Using circular motion, pass flame of culinary torch repeatedly over sugar until it boils and turns lightly charred and amber.
  5. To build toast: Spread 2 tablespoons sunflower butter on each piece of toast. Top each with 1 tablespoon prune puree spread evenly across sunflower butter. Sprinkle each evenly with sunflower seeds and diced prunes. Top each with half broiled citrus and serve.

Alteration: Use broiler set on high instead of culinary torch to caramelize sugar.

5 Family Staycation Ideas that Won’t Break Your Budget

Family vacations are a great way to bond and take a step back from the hectic schedules that accompany everyday life, but sometimes time or money (or both) make planning an elaborate trip a non-starter.

However, a staycation – a vacation you take right in your hometown (or nearby) – can be much less expensive and fit into nearly any amount of available time with the added bonus of skipping out on potentially stressful travel.

Visit local landmarks. Just because it’s not a traditional vacation doesn’t mean you can’t pretend to be tourists. Start by visiting the places you recommend to friends and family from out of town or pick up a city guidebook to uncover hidden spots you may not even know exist. Make a plan to seek out historic sites, visit local landmarks like museums or try an out-of-the-way restaurant (or two) you’ve never eaten at before.

Camp out in the backyard. Camping doesn’t have to be done far from home. In fact, it can be done right in your own backyard. Pitch a tent to sleep under the stars and plan a night full of traditional camping activities like roasting s’mores, telling spooky stories by flashlight and trying to identify stars and constellations.

Set up a picnic in the park. Pack a basket with sandwiches, fruit and other treats and head to the park. You can enjoy a casual meal then take advantage of the open space for a family walk or game of tag before retreating to the playground to let the little ones expel any leftover energy.

Have a home spa day. If you’re looking for some relaxation but don’t want to splurge on the full spa treatment, plan an at-home oasis instead. Light some candles, run a bubble bath and break out the facial masks and fingernail polish.

Visit an amusement park. No matter where you live, there’s probably an amusement or water park within driving distance. A quick online search before you arrive can help prepare a strategy for hitting the most popular thrill rides and waterslides while skipping those that may not provide quite the same entertainment value.

Easy, Affordable Bathroom Upgrades

Long among the most popular areas for homeowners to undertake improvement projects, bathrooms can be some of the easiest rooms in the house to renovate without spending a fortune.

If you’re looking to update one of the most-used spaces in your home, consider these easy and cost-effective ways to give your bathroom a facelift.

Accessorize with Color

There are numerous ways to create a new look without lifting any tools. Replacing linens and other soft surfaces like rugs, window treatments and shower curtains can help brighten up your space. Adding a fresh coat of paint is another low-cost way to modify the look and feel of a space. With a variety of paint colors and finishes to choose from, you can add a splash of color as an accent or go all out to create depth and contrast.

Update Cabinetry and Light Fixtures

Keeping your existing vanity and other bathroom cabinetry, especially if they’re in good condition, can be a cheaper option than replacing all the cabinets. To create an updated look, add a different coat of stain or paint, replace the hardware and add pullout shelving or drawer dividers.

Replacing old, out-of-date light fixtures with modern, efficient options – including the appropriate bulb selections for each fixture – is another cost-effective way to help the space look and feel brighter.

Install a Heated Towel Rack

Consider investing in a multi-purpose appliance to help refresh the look of your area. For example, a heated towel rack can save time and money while providing comfort and convenience. Some freestanding models come ready to use and take as little as 5 minutes to set up.

Swap Out Decor and Accessories

A quick, inexpensive way to transform your bathroom is to update the decor and other design elements. Installing a new toilet seat, faucet or showerhead and adding matching accessories, such as a toilet paper holder, shower control knobs or a toothbrush holder, can make the space feel new and interesting. For even more impact, add artwork that matches the theme of the room, greenery or floating shelving.

Add Accent Tile

You can create a luxurious look with your backsplash, flooring or shower by adding a pop of colorful tile. Cheaper than purchasing an entire room’s worth of tile, creating a chevron or herringbone pattern in one of these oft-seen areas of the bathroom can make a fresh statement.

February Newsletter 2022

It’s cold outside!

Ben Feingold | Fabricare Center Owner

It’s been so cold this past month, my family and I have been spending a lot of time bundled up, indoors. We’ve been playing lots of games, watching movies, and of course keeping up with the football playoffs. Getting excited for the Super Bowl in just a few days! What are some of your go-to Super Bowl dishes? Homemade sheet-pan nachos, buffalo chicken dip, and mini sliders are some of our gameday staples at my house.

As much as we’ve been staying indoors to avoid the cold this month, we have taken some brisk walks and braved the playground in the afternoons on the less frigid days. Gotta get that fresh air and vitamin D! We had a lot of fun playing outside in the snow with our two-year-old son a few weeks ago. Hopefully many of you got to enjoy an Atlanta-style snow day as well.

Now that February is here you probably have started thinking about Valentine’s Day and ways to treat the special people in your life. I know flowers, candy, and jewelry are more typical Valentine’s Day gifts but this year consider doing something a little bit different and purchase a gift card to Fabricare Center. Nothing says I love you more than saving someone from endless loads of laundry, am I right?! 😉

Between all the extra layers we are wearing both indoors and out, our mountains of laundry seem to be piling up much faster this season. Take advantage of Fabricare Center’s wash & fold service today. Spend time doing what you enjoy with those you love, and leave the overflowing piles of laundry to us! And everyone rejoice…famous Georgia groundhog, Beauregard “Beau” Lee saw did not see his shadow this year spring should come early. Until then, bundle up and stay warm!

4 Drivable Destinations in the United States

During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, road trip travel saw a surge, followed by the return of air travel when cases started declining. Now, with COVID-19 continuing to affect daily life, travelers are returning attention to drivable destinations as a way to avoid unpredictable delays and ensure their vacation plans continue without disruption.

From every major region of the country, travelers can find a popular vacation destination within 300 miles, which is about a 3-4-hour car ride. To avoid the crowds and enjoy a getaway on their own terms, many travelers are opting for private vacation homes instead of large hotels and resorts.

If you’re from New England, consider Hamptons, New York.

Located on the South Fork of eastern Long Island, the Hamptons is a chain of oceanside communities and popular summer destination. With its long stretches of coastline, vast farmland and quaint villages combined with upscale restaurants and boutiques, the destination can satisfy a diverse array of interests. Whether you’re looking for outdoor play or to shop to your heart’s content, staying in the Hamptons can put you in the center of it all.

If you’re from the South, make plans to visit Miramar and Rosemary Beach, Florida.

If you want to be surrounded by water, Miramar Beach is a perfect destination. One side of this peninsula in northern Florida touches the Gulf of Mexico while the other side overlooks Choctawhatchee Bay. It is a bit of a contradiction, where old traditions meet modern interests and a slower pace is balanced by plenty to see and do, including historical sites, water sports, golfing and more.

If you’re from the Upper Midwest, drive to Traverse City, Michigan.

When you’re not visiting the marina or watching the boats at picturesque Torch Lake, you can head for the historic City Opera House to check out a live performance or go for a nature walk in Traverse City State Park. Enjoy some shopping or a stop at a quiet cafe along the walkable East Front Street then take the kids to the Great Lakes Children’s Museum.

If you’re from the Lower Midwest, head to Galveston, Texas.

Galveston is known for its Victorian architecture and one of the largest concentrations of well-preserved buildings in the United States. Staying in a pet-friendly cabin can put you within walking distance of beautiful, historic neighborhoods. During your stay, consider checking out a tour of a Victorian mansion, the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig Museum or one of the many festivals that take place throughout the year.

5 Tips to Make Your Home More Energy Efficient This Winter

Winter is a time of year when many people are looking for ways to be warm and cozy to combat the chilly temperatures outside. It’s also the time of year when energy bills can skyrocket. Focusing on energy efficiency can help you keep your home temperature comfortable and your energy bills at bay while also reducing your carbon footprint.

1. Do a Heating Systems Checkup

Be sure all vents and registers throughout your home are clear of obstructions. Checking that all plugs, vents and appliances are in safe, working order can also help improve efficiency and prevent potential hazards. Also consider hiring a professional annually to tune up your HVAC system, tighten electrical connections and check controls to ensure they are working properly and safely.

2. Install Energy-Efficient Light Bulbs and Appliances

It’s important to replace old light bulbs and appliances in your home with newer, energy-efficient ones. Using LED light bulbs in place of traditional incandescent bulbs can save homeowners about $225 in energy costs each year, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. You can also install timers to ensure you’re only using electricity when needed.

3. Add Insulation

Install insulation in and around windows, walls and doors to decrease heat flow from warmer spaces to colder ones, helping to maintain your home’s temperature and lower your heating and cooling costs. Also insulate your water heater with a blanket or cover and check the insulation in your attic, basement, walls and crawl spaces for leaks.

4. Improve Flooring and Windows

Adding rugs or carpet to hardwood floors and ceramic tiles can help prevent drafts and make the room feel cozier. Installing double-pane windows can also help prevent cold air from leaking into your rooms while opening blinds and curtains during the day to let in light can naturally heat up the space.

5. Use an Energy-Efficient Space Heater

A space heater is a simple option for heating up a single chilly room for a short amount of time, which makes it perfect for those looking to save money and energy. Some space heaters are designed specifically for energy efficiency. They use infrared technology to heat rooms, sensing spots that need heat and distributing it accordingly by heating objects instead of filling the space with heat.

Wake Up Refreshed Simple ways to begin your morning

Ready, set, go. Just as you would set off at the starting line of a race, this hectic pace is how mornings begin for many men and women.

Instead of waking with dread to face another hectic morning, consider these tips for a healthier way to ease into your daily rituals. While these activities may require you to allow extra time, you may be pleased with the productive results.

Meditate. A practice that has been around for thousands of years may still be one of the best stress busters for hurried mornings. To start, find a place in your home that is free of noise and distraction. Practice sitting still, with eyes closed, and focus only on your breathing. Using deep, controlled breaths, try to steer your thoughts away from negative and stress-inducing thoughts.

Stretch. While the most health-conscious person may opt for a morning sweat-a-thon, working in some stretches can also be beneficial. When you awake, think about oft-used muscles and extend each one for 15-30 seconds.

Activate. Give your brain some fuel in the morning while also doing something nice for your mind. For example, journaling is a gentle way to ease into your morning and get your brain firing. If you can’t think of a topic, simply write down a few affirmations for the day, revisit a pleasant memory from your past or scribble down a goal for the week. Journaling can be an uplifting way to engage the mind and express gratitude for the day ahead.

Happy New Year!

Ben Feingold | Fabricare Center Owner

This holiday season we spent lots of time entertaining family and friends. We enjoyed festive dinners, lazy days in our pajamas, and family game nights. Now as we usher in the new year, we are greeted with much more frigid temperatures and also a lot of rain. With this less than ideal weather, my family has been hibernating indoors…cozying up in front of the fire, watching movies, enjoying wintertime favorites like soup and chili.

With all this extra time inside, our house has quickly become a mess, especially in part due to our two-year-old son and puppy. Between entertaining over the holidays, school being out for what seems like ages, and spending lots more time inside this chilly winter, our area rugs are certainly starting to show wear.

If your holiday season was similar to ours, your area rugs may have also seen lots of muddy little feet and dirty paws, holiday spills, and some extra wear and tear from all the additional foot traffic.

A good rug is for more than just walking on. Make sure your rugs are as clean as the rest of your house, especially if you’re planning to be cooped inside all season long. Of course, rugs in the highest traffic areas like dining rooms and dens come to mind, but don’t forget about the ones in your kids’ bedrooms, the playroom, or the ones in the formal living room and dining room. If you’re like us, you only use those two rooms for more special occasions.

Our master cleaners specialize in all types of rugs, including wool rug cleaning and oriental rug cleaning. Fabricare Center also provides free pick up and delivery on area rugs within our delivery radius. Rugs are meticulously inspected and cleaned to remove all ground-in dirt and surface stains. From pet dander to dirt and mud, most area rugs need more than just vacuuming to really be clean. Plus, we offer an odor removal service.

Let us get your favorite rugs looking like new. Schedule your free pickup and delivery today. Stay warm this winter and start your new year on a fresh note!

6 Tips to Keep Pets Safe and Warm This Winter

Just as people prepare their homes, cars and families for extreme temperatures and weather events of winter, it’s important to remember pets’ needs this time of year. As cold weather sets in,use these tips to prepare and ensure your pets are warm and happy throughout winter.

Take Caution When Outdoors

When temperatures reach levels of extreme cold, limit outdoor walks and monitoring your pet’s behavior for discomfort. Letting your dog outside to use the bathroom or go for a quick walk is OK, but never leave a pet outside for a long period of time, especially during a winter storm.

Add Extra Layers

Pets who are small, short-haired, old or have any health issues or illnesses may be more sensitive to cold weather. Pet sweaters can help keep your pet warm.

Watch out for Hazardous Chemicals

Products like deicers, antifreeze and salt, which can cause skin irritation and be fatal if ingested by your pet. After a walk, thoroughly rinse your pet’s paws and stomach.

Keep Skin Protected

Just like humans, many pets get dry skin during the winter. Try using a pet-friendly moisturizing shampoo to help keep skin healthy and hydrated. If your pet’s skin seems extra dry, supplements like fish oil can be added to your pets’ food to help the skin and coat.

Have an Emergency Plan

While creating emergency kits in case of a storm or power outage, don’t forget about your pet’s needs.Gather any other care items your pet may require such as medications, puppy pads, waste bags, litter box supplies and calming spray.

Ensure Identification Information is Current

While winter emergencies may add to the importance, it’s crucial your pet wears a tag displaying your phone number year-round. Microchip and register your pet with current contact information.

Mediterranean Rice Bowls with Zucchini Fritters

    3 green onions, thinly sliced

1 tablespoon fresh dill, finely chopped

    1 clove garlic, minced

    1/2 cup all-purpose flour

    1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

    1/2 teaspoon baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

    1/4 teaspoon black pepper

    1/2 cup canola oil

    2 cups diced cucumber

    2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved

    1/2 cup feta, crumbled

    1/2 cup garlic hummus

Divide rice between four bowls. Top each with cucumbers, tomatoes, feta and fritters. Garnish each bowl with scoop of hummus.

Substitution: Hummus may be replaced with prepared Greek tzatziki sauce, if desired.

5 Color Trends for a Stylish Home in 2022

A new year brings new opportunities to refresh your living space and add new colors into your life. These five trends are all about incorporating more of yourself and your lifestyle into your home.

Bring in Nature

Soothing earthy tones help bring a sense of calm and balance indoors. When designing with nature in mind, use gray-green tones to connect your aesthetic with the serene elements of the outdoors. Incorporate nature’s palette with greens in fabrics, accessories and even on the walls.

Stylish Sophistication

If you’re aiming to infuse some sophistication with an update to a favorite space, opt for a monochromatic look in a dark (almost black) hue. The approach is simultaneously bold and classic, but the secret to this trend is finding a shade that’s rich and deep, but not quite black, then complementing it with fabrics and furnishings that let the hint of color shine.

Connect with Your Inner Self

Creating a living space that is uniquely yours requires understanding your inner motivations, traits and talents. One source of personal inspiration may be your zodiac sign, a reflection of the earth’s orientation to the sun on your birthday.

Add Comfort and Warmth

Treating your home like a sanctuary never goes out of style, and one way to create a soothing, inviting space is through the use of cozy neutrals. Whether it’s applied to a bedroom retreat or a more bustling space like the living room, a neutral palette can add to the allure of comfort and warmth. Keep the visual interest strong by incorporating subtle patterns, textures and layers of complementary neutral colors.

Go Retro

It may seem counter intuitive, but vibrant retro shades like orange and yellow, and even warmer neutrals, can help establish a calming vibe within your home. The throwback hues can help your mind connect to moments from the past.

Brush on the Color

Using quality brushes can provide you with a smooth, professional finish, but depending on the surface you’re painting, different sizes and types of brushes can help you achieve the desired look.

How Small Businesses Can Attract and Retain Employees

Small business administrators are typically among the most competent multi-taskers, but even the most talented jugglers occasionally end up with too many balls in the air. Attracting and retaining employees doesn’t have to be part of your juggling act; in fact, having the right team can make the rest of your business run smoother. Make employee retention a priority for your business with these practices:

Create a positive work culture
When employees enjoy coming to work each day, it shows. Your customers recognize it, and your internal team can feel it, too. A positive work culture encourages excellence, forgives mistakes, and leaves plenty of room for having fun. You can create a positive culture by making sure expectations are clearly defined and giving feedback that is consistent and fair.

Provide an appealing salary and benefits package
A competitive salary that aligns with expertise is an obvious edge in hiring top talent. You can become a more attractive employer by offering a benefits package that includes paid time off, insurance and other extras.

Allow for flexible schedules
In large part due to the pandemic, employees have learned to juggle their work and home lives like never before. The businesses who recognize this need have an edge, particularly for employees who need flexibility to care for family members. The degree of flexibility you can offer may vary depending on the business model. Communicating with your employees and working to make reasonable accommodations can go a long way toward attracting strong candidates and retaining current employees.

Provide opportunities for growth
Employees typically look for opportunities to learn and grow through additional responsibility, compensation and rewards for performance that encourage long-term commitment. Working with employees to understand their career goals is an important step on a path for growth that is mutually beneficial.

Ben Feingold | Fabricare Center Owner

I can’t believe December is already here and the holiday season is upon us! There’s always something fun and festive going on in Atlanta during December, from holiday markets to magical light displays, to ice skating and so much more. Whether it’s gathering around the table for a special meal, visiting with relatives from out of town, or picking out the perfect gift from someone you love, we hope you have many memorable moments surrounded by friends and family this holiday season. Amidst the flurry of gift giving in December, I’m always inspired to find ways to give to those less fortunate. As you may remember from last year, we sponsored a coat drive to benefit Wellspring Living. We are sponsoring the coat drive again this winter and would love it if you’re able to participate.

Wellspring Living is a nonprofit in Atlanta, GA. Over the last 20 years they have supported women and children that have been at risk or victimized by sexual exploitation. Wellspring Living needs help this holiday season. To aid those most vulnerable, Fabricare Center has partnered with Wellspring Living to provide warmth through our coat drive.

Wellspring Living programs include residential and community-based programs which provide therapeutic services, educational support, as well as personal and professional development. The hope is to safeguard and uplift as many women and children as they can. By collaborating with the generous community, Wellspring Living provides their participants the tools needed to flourish in life. Consider donating gently used or new coats in sizes small to 4X at either of our two retail locations. We are also collecting coats through our convenient pickup and delivery service, just remember to include a note to let us know what items you are donating.

Whether you donate with Fabricare Center’s partner Wellspring Living or are working with another organization this holiday season we hope you are inspired to give a little back this year and help those most in need.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season!

6 Tips to Keep Some Jingle In Your Pocket This Holiday Season

Awe-inspiring decorations. Extravagant family meals. Gift wish lists that seem to go on forever. No wonder the holidays can be stressful for many Americans and their wallets.

However, “Food Network” personality and best-selling cookbook author Sunny Anderson has a few tips that can help you gear up for the festivities while still leaving some jingle in your pocket.

Shop Your Pantry First – You may be amazed by what might be sitting in your pantry that you could transform into an amazing holiday dish or treat. Most people have pancake or waffle mix, food coloring and sprinkles sitting in their pantries. Mix them together to create fun, holiday-themed tree waffles your kids, and even your most gourmet guests, may never forget. As an added bonus, you can get a head start on clearing out your pantry for the new year.

Add Some Holiday Glitz – Make simple holiday treats more enjoyable with festive but frugal flair. Simple candy canes can “heat up” your hot chocolate. Shave portions of the candy cane into the hot chocolate or use one as a stir stick for the holiday classic.

Bring the Outside In – Don’t hesitate to use elements from nature to add a little holiday cheer to your home. Simply place colorful leaves in different sized, shaped and colored glass jars along with pinecones and battery-powered tea lights. These timeless pieces can be added to your dining table, end tables or mantel.

Get Carded – Make the holiday cards you receive from friends and family even more special by making them centerpieces of your seasonal decorations. Use temporary, damage-free wall hooks and a string of white or colored indoor lights to outline a tree or your favorite holiday decoration. Then attach the cards to the tree as you receive them.

Regift Away – This doesn’t have to be taboo. These items are often new, unused things someone you love could use immediately. A simple way to feel better about regifting is to package it with another item you select or make to provide that personal touch.

Give the Gift of Time –Block a series of windows on your calendar throughout the month of December to call friends and family you haven’t connected with in a while. If you want to really give the gift of connection this season, look no further than a brand like Straight Talk Wireless, which offers a wide selection of plans and phones without contracts or mystery fees on America’s largest and most dependable networks. The brand is also embracing the season of giving, offering double data on its $35 plan, which now includes 10 gigabytes of high-speed data with up to 5 gigabytes of hotspot enabled, as well as unlimited talk and text included.

Shifting Wellness Attitudes Shape 2022 Fitness Trends

Whether you’re a stylist with an eye for fashion who chooses each garment carefully or the laid-back type who can rock the first outfit you find each morning, the closet provides a location for inspiration. Turning bland closet space into a truly eye-catching room calls for a little planning and DIY creativity.

Plan it out

Creating the perfect closet space begins with your ideas. Think about the details such as how you want the space to look and the amount and type of storage you need. Envision everything from colors and finishes to the physical shape.

Focus on practicality

Once you’ve dreamed up your ideal closet, compare your ideas with the space you have available and adjust your plans to fit your footprint and budget. This step allows you to get creative with ways to maximize your space and use every available inch to create a closet that gives you the function and aesthetic you desire.

Keep it organized

A beautiful closet likely won’t mean as much for you if it isn’t functional, and organization is a key to true functionality. Keep your space organized in a stylish manner with an option like the ClosetMaid Revolution Storage Ottoman, a convenient, easy-to-assemble, multi-use piece designed for closets or any area of your home. Able to hold up to 12 pairs of shoes, its rotating design maximizes storage for functional appeal.

Remain detail-oriented

It’s not just the structure that can bring your dream closet to life; little touches can add up in a big way. Upgrade your light fixture, for example, and look for other ways to personalize the space for a look that’s all yours, such as shelving to display treasured photos or keepsakes, or a spot on the wall for a vision board to draw inspiration from as you begin each day.

Change up the color

Introduce light and personality into your closet with rich color and style. Add accent color on the walls behind your clothes or incorporate color with the structural elements. On-trend finishes can help make the space pop by complementing the colors of your wardrobe.

What to Expect in Travel in 2022

After a couple abnormal years, many families are eager and ready to travel together again, and there are indications some pandemic-influenced travel behaviors will persist in 2022.

Consider these 2022 trends spotted by the travel experts at Vrbo:

Up-and-Coming Destinations

Spots in Ohio, New York and Alaska saw double vacation rental demand over the past year. Within driving distance of major Midwest metros like Chicago, Indianapolis and Louisville, Cincinnati was the year’s top emerging destination.

Other up-and-comers include Niagara Falls, a popular choice for those who wanted to experience life at the border. Yorktown, Virginia, the location of the last Revolutionary War battle, allows history buffs to witness a battle reenactment. Adventurous travelers trekked to Matanuska-Susitna, Alaska, to enjoy the wilderness of Denali National Park and Preserve, breathtaking glaciers and surrounding mountains.

Chalet All Day

You may have heard of Cabincore and Cottagecore, but chalets are a trending aesthetic that inspires family travel. Chalets saw a nearly 85% increase in demand year over year. Located on lakefronts or nestled in the woods, these charming and idyllic properties are desirable lodging options for many families.

Kids Call the Shots

After being cooped up at home, it may be no surprise parents are letting their kids have a bigger say in vacation planning. Compared to pre-pandemic times, half of the families surveyed said they’re more likely to let their kids decide where they vacation and 43% of parents are more likely to let their kids skip school for vacation.

Traveling with the Pack

Many families adopted pandemic pets because they had more time at home to spend with their furry friends. Now more people are bringing Fido and Fluffy along on vacation; 68% of pet parents have traveled, plan to travel or would like to travel with their pets. What’s more, there has been a 40% increase in demand year-over-year for pet-friendly vacation homes.

Early Bird Bookers

If 2021 was any indication, families will continue booking their vacations further in advance. Booking activity occurred an average of 2-3 months earlier than usual for several major travel seasons. Families booked summer travel in February, holiday trips in July and snowbirds got a head start on booking warm weather stays for 2022. In fact, 60% of survey respondents said they plan to book their vacations earlier than they did in pre-pandemic times with nearly half making plans 3-5 months in advance.

How to clean a beaded dress

How to clean a beaded dress?

Fabricare Center Blog

How you care for your more delicate dresses can add years on to their life. And with dresses featuring beads or sequins, this becomes even more important. And if you’re looking to do the cleaning yourself, it becomes even more important to know what you are doing. So below we’ll cover how to clean a beaded dress and keep it looking like new for years to come.

How to clean a beaded dress?

Spot Treat Dirty Areas

The idea is to avoid cleaning the whole dress and spot treat any stains or dirty areas directly. There is no need to risk washing the entire dress if only the skirt is dirty. To do this you can follow the hand washing directions below.

Hand Wash or Professionally Clean Only

Most more intricate and beaded dresses will recommend either hand washing or dry cleaning the garment. You don’t want to put your dress in a home style washer and dryer. So make sure you properly hand wash or have your dress professionally cleaned.

How to hand wash a beaded dress?

Fill a tub or sink with cold water and a small amount of gentle detergent. Placing your dress gently and using a light swishing motion. Slowly plunging the area of the dress in and out of the water. You want to avoid rubbing the dress together or roughly with your hands. This can damage the beads or fabric. Rinse the dress in several cool water bathes or under a slow soft flow.

Drying a Beaded Dress

Start by flipping the dress inside out. Now get a long towel and lay the dress on top of it. Now you are going to roll the wet dress up with the towel. Gently squeezing. Repeat as needed. Next flip the dress to the right side out and then lay on a clean flat surface on another clean dry towel to dry.

Winter is in the Air

Ben Feingold | Fabricare Center Owner

The last few months of the year always seem to fly by. It seems like a marathon of holidays, between Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah, and the New Year. Before you know it, we’re packing up our holiday décor, making resolutions, and heading into January.

I try to savor the holiday season each year, knowing how fleeting it is. Now that Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is the next big one on tap. We’ve got family coming in from out of town, so it’ll be a busy week, trying to pack in as much family time and fun as possible. My son’s second birthday is also Thanksgiving week as is Hanukkah, this year. All that being said, we’ll be hosting a lot of celebrations and gatherings for our friends and family at our home this month.

With family coming in, we have lots of prep to tend to around the house. The house needs be cleaned, yard needs to be spruced up, menus need to be picked, and food and gift shopping needs to be done. There is also decorating and planning fun excursions. While we can’t help you with everything on your to-do list, we can definitely take a few things off your plate.

Need us to your refresh your towels and bed linens? We got it. Want to steam and press your table linens (table cloths, runners, placemats, napkins, etc)…no problem, we’re on it. Planning to turn on those outdoor heaters and dust off the fire pit so you can entertain outside? Go ahead and send in your patio cushions, pillows, and outdoor rugs…we’ll take care of them for you.

Bottom line, we can help with all of your dry cleaning and laundry needs during this fun but incredibly busy time of year! This way you have more time for the fun tasks like cooking and shopping, and most of all more time to spend with your loved ones. Early Thanksgiving wishes to you and yours!

Kind regards,

Create a Healthier Home Through Smart Updates

Many homeowners looking to improve their living spaces seek out upgrades that can add visual appeal, improve functionality or increase resale value. However, some updates can also benefit the mental and physical health of those who occupy the space.

While making your home healthier can involve simple steps like decluttering, swapping out cleaning products for natural versions and opening windows to let in more fresh air, there are other projects that can be done to create longer-lasting results. Consider these ideas to create spaces that are not only functional and beautiful but also impart a sense of well-being.

Apply a Fresh Coat of Paint

Changing the color of a room can transform your space while also positively impacting your mood. Bright, warm colors like yellow may be uplifting while cooler shades like beige, pale green and soft blue can be soothing. Repainting can also help prevent mold and mildew growth on walls while repelling dust and allergens.

Upgrade Your Flooring

Made of natural materials, hardwood flooring is not only attractive but is a hygienic, easy-to-clean choice. The organic beauty and grain of the wood creates an intrinsic connection to nature. You can set the foundation for your living spaces with an option like artisan-crafted Carlisle Wide Plank Floors. Each floor is handcrafted, one board at a time, from sustainably sourced timbers.

Add Natural Light

If your home lacks adequate natural lighting, adding or replacing windows and skylights can allow more sunlight into your living space. This offers several benefits, including an improved sense of well-being and increased productivity, not to mention the potential cost savings when you install energy-efficient versions.

Modernize the Kitchen

From appliances to countertops, there are a variety of kitchen upgrades that can make your space healthier. Incorporating automated technology like a touchless faucet can reduce the amount of contact with germs while a water filtration system can improve the quality of your drinking water. Updating your countertops with a non-porous material like quartz, which replicates the look of natural stone, provides a contemporary aesthetic, and the antimicrobial surface will not harbor bacteria or viruses.

Create a Bathroom Oasis

Even a small space like the bathroom can benefit from wellness-focused updates. Soaking tubs and spa showers with hydrotherapy showerheads can help reduce stress and provide a mental respite. Additionally, a heated towel rack not only brings a touch of luxury but can reduce energy usage and keep towels free of mold and mildew between washes.

How to Make the Holidays Less Stressful for the Whole Family

Between changes in routine and visiting family (or having them visit you), the holidays can be emotionally overwhelming for children and adults alike, even in “normal times.” Add in inclement weather, the desire for a perfect holiday and parents still working, and you have a perfect cocktail for emotional meltdowns.

“The key to enjoying whatever this holiday season brings is to acknowledge the range of emotions the entire family may be feeling and hold space for those feelings,” said Ariel Acosta from KinderCare’s Inclusion Services team. “By working on a few key things now before the heightened expectations and busyness set in, families can build a toolbox of skills that will help make the season less stressful for everyone.”

Consider these tips to help families prepare for a less stressful holiday season.

Find ways to destress as a family – Throw on some music and have a dance party. Incorporate some simple yoga moves or stretches into your day to create mindful moments. Help your children create a list of calm-down techniques to choose from when they start to become overwhelmed or as a way to reset after an outburst, such as taking a deep breath.

Set expectations for greetings – Talk with your children about your family’s expectations around greetings and help them think of and practice different ways to say hello, such as a hug, handshake, high-five, wave or verbal greeting. Giving your children options ahead of time allows them to choose the greeting that feels most comfortable in the moment. To lessen the pressure, make sure family members and friends understand what you and your children are comfortable with. For example, “It looks like Zazil doesn’t want a hug right now, Auntie Mei. Perhaps a high-five would be better.”

Give your children (and yourself) grace – Talk with your children about the range of emotions you feel throughout the day. This can help them learn emotional literacy and flexible thinking. It also normalizes feelings. When a big feeling does happen, remember to connect before you correct by labeling and validating your child’s emotions: “I can see that you’re really sad we have to leave the party. Leaving makes me feel sad, too. What would help you feel better?”

If your child is engaged in unsafe behaviors, like hitting, wait until after everyone is calm before talking about what could be done differently next time.

“How you handle your mistakes can be a powerful example for your children,” Acosta said. “Once you’re calm, explain what happened to your children. Start by naming your emotion, apologize if you didn’t handle your feelings well and let your children know what you plan to do differently next time. ‘I was really mad you two were arguing and I yelled. I shouldn’t have done that. Next time, I’m going to try to remember to take some deep breaths to help me speak more kindly.’”

Should you Wash Clothes Before Wearing Them

Should you Wash Clothes Before Wearing Them?

Fabricare Center Blog

One of the most common questions we get in regards to new clothing is, “should you wash new clothes before wearing them?” And while I’ve heard arguments for both sides. We here at Fabricare Center Cleaners always recommend that you wash new clothes before wearing them. So let’s find out why!

Should you wash clothes before wearing them?

According to clothing manufacturing expert Lana Hogue, she told Elle magazine “You should absolutely wash clothes before you wear them, especially anything that is right next to the skin or that you will sweat on.”

As it turns out the process of making clothes can involve more chemicals (some toxic) than most people realize. Of course the clothing you wear will be covered in dies. But clothes are also often sprayed with an anti-mildew agent. And depending on the country of origin, these can contain chemicals like formaldehyde.

These chemicals are low enough in concentration that it is assumed they will dissipate over time through washing. But if you don’t wash your clothes and wear them first. Your sweat can cause those chemicals to come off onto your skin.

So forget worrying about the people that tried on the clothes before you. The real reason to wash your clothes before wearing them is to remove anything left over from the manufacturing process. And this is even more important with cheaper clothes made in certain foreign countries.

Should you dry clean Clothes Before Wearing Them

Should you dry clean clothes before wearing them?

Many dry clean only clothes go through the same manufacturing process as mentioned above. And it goes to reason that you would want to get those chemicals off of your clothes. So yes, dry cleaning your clothes before you wear them is a good idea. Just make sure your cleaners are using an eco-friendly dry cleaning detergent, like us. This is important when looking for the best options for your skin and the planet. You can find out more about the Green Earth detergent that we use by clicking here.

And if you’re in the Metro Atlanta area we offer free pickup & delivery on wash & fold and dry cleaning.

5 Eye-Catching Ways to Update Your Home

Your home is a reflection of you, and your decor should match your tastes. With some simple home upgrades, you can create the perfect space for you and your family, even if your design preferences change over time.
Consider these ideas to get started:

Add a Fresh Coat of Paint – One of the easiest home improvement projects, a fresh coat of paint can change the entire look of a room. Whether you choose to paint the entire space one new color, opt for an accent wall in a vibrant shade or simply freshen up the trim, paint can go a long way toward adding visual appeal and reflecting your personality. Patterned wallpaper, board and batten, stone and tile can also be added to create textured accents.

Bring Warmth and Ambiance with a Fireplace – More than 3 in 5 homeowners have a fireplace or other hearth product in their homes, according to the HPBA, and including a fireplace in your construction or renovation plans is a gift of warmth, comfort and ambiance you can give yourself. Whether it’s a centerpiece for your living room or family room, or an accent to your bedroom, bathroom or study, a fireplace can provide an artful design element for your home and a safe, reliable heat source in the event of unexpected weather.

Update Lighting Fixtures – Proper lighting can bring rooms to life and make spaces look larger and more welcoming. You can brighten up your home in a variety of ways, from strategically placing table and floor lamps that fit your design style to replacing older ceiling and wall-mounted fixtures with more modern styles.

Give Cabinetry a Fresh Look – There are numerous easy ways to update your kitchen and bathroom cabinets to create a more updated look. One of the easiest is swapping out older cabinet pulls and knobs for more modern options. With a variety of finishes – stainless, bronze, brushed nickel, black, copper and more – and styles available, you can match your cabinets to nearly any design style in a matter of minutes. Adding a coat of stain or paint is also a relatively quick and easy way to update some of the most-used spaces in your home without completely replacing the cabinets.

Upcycle Furniture – You can breathe new life into your current furniture by making simple changes. The easiest would be simply rearranging your pieces and moving some to different rooms to create an updated look. You can also add decorative covers to sofas, chairs, throw pillows and more, or take your upcycling a step further and refinish a bookshelf, table or other wooden furniture with a fresh coat of paint or stain, or give it a more weathered look with some sandpaper.

4 Ways to Live a Healthy Lifestyle with Your Pet

healthy dog tips

While every pet is unique in looks and needs, a responsibility shared by all pet parents is to make sure their four-legged friends stay in good health. A pet’s health can reflect that of its owner, so living alongside your pet in a healthy way can help you both thrive.

Keep it Clean

Good grooming and hygiene habits can help keep you and your furry friend in good health. Baths can help kill fleas, ticks and parasites that may be in your dog’s fur, which protects him or her and your home. However, washing a dog too frequently can lead to dry skin. Different breeds of dogs require different amounts of time between washings, so be sure to check with your veterinarian to see what is recommended for your specific dog to keep everyone happy and healthy.

Dig into Something Nutritious

A well-balanced diet can be part of a healthy lifestyle for both you and your pets. Out of all the ways to keep your pets healthy, watching what they eat (and how much they eat) is one of the most critical. Look for dog foods that are rich in nutrients and full of flavor, which contain a trio of proteins from chicken, lamb and salmon and a medley of 15 superfoods, like brown rice, flaxseed, sun-ripened blueberries and more. These ingredients are not only healthy for dogs, but humans as well, so opt for recipes and dishes that feature these ingredients for yourself, too.

Grab the Leash Instead of Your Car Keys

Even if you live in a big city, a hiking trail or dog park may be just a short distance away. Make time to head outside with your dog. This not only gets in some quality bonding time with your pet, but also brings exercise into your day. If you don’t have enough time for a hike, take a few minutes for a quick stroll around the neighborhood or play fetch with your furry friend to get you both moving.

Don’t Over-Treat

Sometimes a treat is deserved. Rewarding both yourself and your dog after a task, in moderation, is a healthy way to recognize a positive action and promote happiness. When choosing the right treat for your furry friend, look for an option that is not only tasty, but also helps support his or her health.

Decorate Your Way to a Howling Good Halloween

Halloween-Decorating-tips

Along with costumes and candy, decorating is a fun way to set the mood and add a little extra excitement in the weeks leading up to the holiday. These spooktacular ideas will help give you some easy ideas on how to add some holiday spirit.

Pumpkins aplenty: A glowing jack-o’-lantern is one of Halloween’s most iconic images. And pumpkins can be used in plenty of other fun ways for the holiday. You can dress them up with glitter and ribbon for a more elegant look or group a series of pumpkins in varied shapes and colors for a seasonal centerpiece. Or you can paint your pumpkin with a coat of chalkboard paint. Then you can change the face every day!

Creepy kids’ crafts: Get little ghosts and goblins into the Halloween spirit with hand-made decorations that make your seasonal decor equal parts sweet and spooky. Fold a black piece of construction paper down the middle and trace a child’s hand and wrist, with the wrist extending over the folded edge. Cut along the traced line, leaving the fold intact, and when you unfold the paper, you’ll have a bat to decorate. Add eyes and attach string to the top of the wings to hang and display.

Gross and ghoulish: Some of the best Halloween displays have something in common: attention to detail. Get creative with your props and decorations to incorporate some unexpected attention-grabbers like brains in a jar. Place bunches of cauliflower in a clear glass container and cover with water died red.

Spooky serving: If you’re entertaining guests this Halloween, make sure to incorporate spooky decor with your food and drinks. Keeping the theme going throughout the party. You can use cauldrons as serving bowls and skeleton hands as serving spoons. Adding plenty of cobwebs is always easy and other spooky accents on table and shelves go a long way. Search for easy recipes that fit your theme. A fun idea for the kids is baking sugar cookies in fun Halloween shapes. Then serving them with a selection of food-safe syringes pre-filled with colored frosting.

Ghostly greetings: All the decorations indoors make for plenty of good spirit. But don’t forget to set the Halloween mood outside, too. Dressing up your front door lets visitors know you’re into the holidays. And is an unexpected treat. A haunted graveyard scene in the front yard or a spooky spider den around the door with lots of critters dangling from fake cobwebs are sure to show all who dare to enter that a howling good time lies ahead.

Conclusion

It has come to my attention after writing this that Tide Cleaners (who also owned PressBox) has closed its Atlanta cleaning locations and now not listing any Metro Atlanta dry cleaning facilities on their website. It seems as though between the bad reviews and pandemic that they could not survive.

That said, Tide Cleaners is still operating lockers at many office and residential buildings. These “Tide” boxes are not serviced or cleaned by Tide Cleaners. Another company is servicing them under the Tide name. So where are your clothes really going?

On the other hand, Fabricare Center Cleaners has been in business in the Atlanta area for 40+ years, are Atlanta’s highest rated cleaners, and do all of their own cleaning at their own facility.
